What is it?
Aqualyx is a liquid solution that dissolves fat cells when injected into the regional deposits of adipose tissue under the skin, it can help remove and reduce stubborn localised pockets of fat

The main component of Aqualyx is Deoxycholic acid (DC), a secondary bile acid naturally present in the body. When injected into the subcutaneous layer, it destabilises the fat cell membrane and causes permanent dissolution of fat cells. A reduction in fat deposits can be noticed when the released fatty contents are removed naturally through the lymphatic system.

The Procedure
A reduction in fat deposits can be seen after just one treatment, however between two and four sessions are required to see the optimal effect. The speed at which results are seen will vary depending on the stability of the cell membranes; younger patients are more likely to see results after a longer period; the average time is 2-4 weeks.

Patients report good tolerance of the treatment and an anaesthetic is normally mixed into the solution prior to the injection for greater comfort. As this is a non-surgical treatment there is minimal downtime and no general anaesthetic risks.

After each treatment patients can expect some swelling, redness and skin irritation and tenderness in the area treated, which will reside after 1-3 days. You will be able to reduce the swelling by using a cool pack wrapped in a clean cloth for a maximum of 20 minutes each day. You cannot use anti-inflammatory tablets for 48 hours after treatment as this will work against the treatment. The treated area may feel tender and firm for up to 8 weeks post treatment.

Destroying the fat cells leads to a long lasting solution provided patients retain a stable weight and continue exercise as usual.

Cavitation and Radio Frequency (RF)

Radio Frequency treatment achieves its fantastic results by producing heat in the underlying layers of the skin and stimulating the production of collagen, the body’s natural skin-healing protein.
Radio Frequency treatment is commonly used to help tighten the skin, for this reason it works fantastic in combination with Aqualyx
Are Aqualyx results permanent?

Whilst the body can regenerate fat cells - the process is very slow. So once fat cells are removed from a localised area your results are as good as permanent. However, if you do not continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle then your body will put on weight in other areas of your body where fat cells remain.
Aftercare
Do not apply any cosmetics onto the treated area within a 12-hour period and avoid all direct sources of heat and radiation (sunlight, UV-radiation, sauna etc.) Furthermore, you should abstain from particularly demanding physical exercise for 7 days. As the released fatty acids are converted into additional energy, it is especially important that you keep a strict and healthy diet, otherwise your body will simply store the fat in an alternative fat depot.

4. Acute or chronic pathologies in the skin of treated area.
5. Positive history to anaphylactic reaction.
